Do you have a signature color? Does your home?

Being at a hotel over the weekend, where red, like a beautiful, brilliant rose was clearly their signature color, I started thinking about how color makes a statement in a home. It creates a mood, a feeling, a hint of what's to come for anyone who walks in your doors. How do you want your guests to feel? What message are you trying to convey, even if it is subtle? The beautiful red used at Hotel Faena makes the hotel almost playful... but it still reads sophisticated. For someone who loves Alice in Wonderland, the scene with the Queen of Hearts in her rose garden kept coming to mind.

I for one, have always used a hint of pale blue in my bedroom as the signature color against a neutral background. I find it tranquil like the ocean gently skimming the shore and calming like the pale blue sky. In the common areas in my home, a hint of green is my go to hue. The color of grass, brought inside to remind me of the great outdoors. It refreshes but relaxes at the same time.

If you have a color you love, why not make it your home's signature color? What would you want your signature color to be? Think long and hard of what feeling you want to convey and start accenting with more pieces that you love. Maybe you're noticing you already have a signature color. Can you build on it just a little more? Maybe go a little bolder?

Have fun playing with color around your home, but don't buy anything too expensive or too large in that color. I always think it's better to have a neutral background, so that you can change your signature color whenever you want to, without it costing an arm and a leg.
